The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced during the presentation of the Gran Mision Madre Tierra Venezuela (Great Mission Mother Earth Venezuela) the holding in Venezuela of the World Congress of Ecosocialism from December 19 to 21, 2025, bringing together academics, scientists, and environmental activists to promote alternatives to «predatory capitalism.»
During the launching ceremony, held at the Mukumbarí Cable Car System (Mérida state), the head of state invited universities, scientific centers, and community organizations to join the mission to refine their strategies.
President Maduro said that the Gran Mision Madre Tierra Venezuela is an initiative consisting of seven work vertices, among which highlights the integral study of the country’s watersheds stands out as part of the Third Vertex:
“It’s time to take action in the face of this new climate reality and build solutions from the people,” he affirmed.
The national leader linked the initiative to the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Chuquisaca Decree, a historic document that in 1825 recognized the importance of protecting natural resources:
“This is a firm step in defense of Mother Earth and life,” stated the president, emphasizing that the mission seeks to consolidate policies of sustainability and environmental justice.
The Gran Mision Madre Tierra aligns with Venezuela’s international commitments to climate change, albeit with a critical approach toward the dominant economic models.
