Vice President Rodríguez: Geopolitics should not interfere in global energy relations

«Our responsibility for the future is to ensure that the investments we make today truly guarantee energy accessibility at equilibrium prices, where geopolitics no longer interferes in global energy relations.»

Thus was stated by Executive Vice President and Minister of People’s Power for Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodríguez, during her speech at the 9th OPEC International Seminar, that is being held in Austria, when referring to the economic aggression schemes suffered by some nations in the face of the challenge of the energy trilemma: Security, equity, and environmental sustainability:

«26% of global oil production is under unilateral coercive measures,» stated the senior Venezuelan official, adding that 46% of the world’s reserves are also subject to this interference scheme.

In this context, Rodríguez reminded the representatives of the nations participating in the international seminar that Venezuela faces 1,041 sanctions and coercive measures, the result of an economic war against the country and its hydrocarbon industry, the sole purpose of which is to undermine its competitiveness.

«Venezuela cannot be excluded from the global energy formula,» she declared.

The Venezuelan vice president also reiterated that achieving a fair and sustainable balance will be impossible as long as the world remains at war, when the main energy producers are involved and others, being the consumers, are targeted. As an example of this, she pointed to the Zionist expansionism that threatens an important oil and gas producing region.

The OPEC seminar, which is being held on July 9 and 10, is considered one of the most important events in the energy industry, where strategic issues such as market stability, energy transition, and production policies are discussed. Venezuela’s participation strengthens its influence in key decisions in the sector.

This meeting gathers ministers, executives, and experts from member and allied countries, establishing itself as a space to strengthen alliances and analyze future oil challenges in a context of global change.

The presence of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez at the event stresses Venezuela’s commitment to OPEC and its interest in maintaining an active dialogue on defining policies that impact international crude oil prices and production.
