In a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Venezuela conveyed its congratulations on the 65th anniversary of the African country’s independence, celebrated on June 30. During the dialogue were highlighted the efforts of the Congolese government to achieve peace and stability in its territory, as well as Venezuela’s commitment to supporting these initiatives.
The meeting also served to exchange perspectives on the Summit for Peace and Against War, convened by President Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela recognizes the key role of Africa and the African Union in building a more just world and in resolving conflicts, and therefore this dialogue strengthens cooperation between the two nations.
Furthermore, Venezuela congratulated the DRC on its recent election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2026-2028 term, an achievement that reflects its growing influence on the international stage. This appointment will allow the African country to actively contribute to global decision-making on peace and security.
The conversation also paid tribute to the legacy of Patrice Lumumba, Congolese independence leader, whose centenary was commemorated on July 2 in Caracas together with his son, Roland Lumumba. Venezuela thus reaffirmed its commitment to the DRC’s history of struggle and sovereignty.
This diplomatic rapprochement strengthens ties between Venezuela and the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighting the importance of South-South cooperation and the search for peaceful solutions to global challenges. Both countries reiterate their commitment to multipolarity and international justice.
With this dialogue, Venezuela continues strengthening its foreign policy, prioritizing solidarity with the African peoples and promoting initiatives that foster peace and sustainable development.
