The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, called for the promotion of printed books as a pillar of a «revolution of reading» in the country. Through a video broadcast on his channel on Telegram, he highlighted the importance of promoting the reading of physical books to foster debate and strengthen culture in this new stage of the Venezuelan cultural revolution.
During the 21st edition of the International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN 2025), held at the National Art Gallery in Caracas under the «Reading Humanizes» slogan, the president emphasized the importance of prioritizing printed books over digital ones.
This event became the perfect setting to highlight the need for a tangible connection with reading, promoting humanization through physical texts.
The head of state proposed the creation of a social mission aimed at leading a revolution of the book in Venezuela. This initiative seeks to consolidate reading as a deeply rooted habit in society, encouraging access to printed books and the discussion of ideas that strengthen the country’s cultural identity.
In addition, he announced a special plan to promote reading in the Venezuelan schools, with a focus on the distribution of printed books. The main objective of this project is to educate new generations in the culture of books, ensuring that access to reading is a tool for intellectual and cultural development.
The president reaffirmed that culture is a fundamental pillar for building national identity and sovereignty: «Venezuela is a country with a solid identity, built over centuries of struggle,» he said, highlighting the role of printed books as a means of preserving and disseminating the country’s historical and cultural values. With these initiatives, the Venezuelan government seeks to position reading as an engine of social transformation.
