Apostolic Nuncio receives presidential letter addressed to the Pope to release children kidnapped in the U.S.

The Apostolic Nuncio to Venezuela, Monsignor Alberto Ortega Martín, paid a visit this Tuesday to the office of the President of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, to receive the letter addressed to Pope Leo XIV, in which the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan people, requests the Supreme Pontiff to take the necessary steps to rescue the migrant children forcibly detained on U.S. soil and separated from their families.

In a cordial meeting at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Parliament, the Vatican’s high diplomat spoke with the president of the Legislative Branch about the 18 children illegally kidnapped in the United States (US) after being separated from their parents, as well as Venezuelan migrants in general, who are being targeted by policies that violate international law.

The presidential letter requests papal intervention so that he can do his best to secure the children’s release. The letter also asks the Pope to establish links and contacts between the Catholic Church in the United States and El Salvador to protect the migrants and to show mercy to the mothers and fathers who are suffering today because their illegally deported children are currently detained in a police concentration camp in Central America, without any rights.

The president of the National Assembly also announced that this request will be supported by all Venezuelans during signature sessions for the presidential letter.

Rodríguez highlighted Monsignor Ortega Martín’s great willingness to promptly deliver this letter to the Pope in Vatican City.
