Venezuela rejects US presidential memorandum deepening economic blockade against Cuba

The Venezuelan government expressed its strong rejection of the new Presidential Memorandum issued by the United States against Cuba, which intensifies the economic, financial, and commercial blockade that has sought to subjugate the Cuban people for more than six decades. In an official statement, Venezuela described this measure as «anachronistic, inhumane, and in violation of international law.»

The statement also manifested the solidarity of Venezuela with Cuba, emphasizing that the blockade represents «one of the most evident historical failures of US foreign policy.»

Following, the full text of the document:

«The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the new Presidential Memorandum issued by the Government of the United States against the Republic of Cuba, which deepens the criminal economic, financial, and commercial blockade that for more than six decades has unsuccessfully sought to subjugate a dignified and sovereign people.

This anachronistic, inhumane policy, in violation of international law, has been one of the most evident historical failures of US foreign policy. An aggression that responds to the interests of a self-conscious political class, trapped in its visceral hatred of a free and sovereign nation as Cuba is.

Once again, Washington pots itself outside the international consensus, which year after year, with an overwhelming majority in the United Nations General Assembly, demands the immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade.

The Bolivarian Government expresses its strongest solidarity with the people and government of the sister Republic of Cuba, confident that it will resist with dignity, creativity, and courage. This new attack, like all the previous ones, will also fail.”
