In a moving tribute act, President Nicolás Maduro addressed the nation to commemorate the 106th anniversary of the birth of Saint José Gregorio Hernández, a prominent doctor, scientist, and moral figure of the Venezuela of the 20th-century.
The president highlighted the significance of the People’s Saint, whose life was marked by sublime values of faith, solidarity, and patriotism:
«José Gregorio Hernández is a man of actions of solidarity, who cared for the most humble and despised ones of his time, healing them not only with his medical expertise, but also with profound love and humanity,» he stated.

He mentioned that Hernández, recognized as one of the great scientists of his time, was a pioneer in the use of microscopes and contributed to the founding of the Chair of Bacteriology in the country.

«Saint José Gregorio is a great moral, ethical, and spiritual figure who represents the hope and compassion of a caring people. His dedication and devotion to those most in need remind us of the importance of faith and prayer in our daily lives,» he emphasized.
