The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, announced this Monday his decision to reopen direct flights between Caracas and Santo Domingo, at the request of the Venezuelan people residing in the Dominican Republic.
During the 82nd edition of his weekly “Con Maduro+” program, he recounted that on Saturday he held a private meeting with the daughter of Dominican merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who died on April 8, to posthumously grant the Venezuelan nationality to the singer.
At this meeting, he met with other exponents of the genre, including Sergio Vargas, who, on behalf of the Dominican and Venezuelan communities living in Santo Domingo, proposed reopening direct flights between the capitals of both nations.
«I told him, ‘Right? Okay, that sounds good to me. It’s approved, we’re going to open them tomorrow. The Venezuelan airlines are ready to fly; we’re just waiting for the Dominican Aeronautical Institute,'» said the Head of State, who thanked the merengue singers for their visit.
He recalled that Zulinka Pérez, daughter of the late Rubby Pérez, was accompanied by Omar Enrique, Fernandito Villalona, Bonny Cepeda, and Mabel Yeah, artists who headlined a concert on Saturday in tribute to the singer known as «The Highest Voice of Merengue.»
«May God have him in his glory, in the heights of his blessings,» President Maduro concluded with regard to the singer Rubby Pérez.
