Guayana Esequiba will call local elections when its municipalities are established

The state of Guayana Esequiba will not participate in the municipal elections of next July 27, as its future municipalities have not yet been established, as announced this Monday Diosdado Cabello, the secretary general of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

During the party’s weekly press conference, Cabello reported that the new Venezuelan entity has the elected Governor Neil Villamizar and the members of its first Legislative Council, following the regional and parliamentary elections held last May 25. Now that these authorities are installed, it is up to the Legislative Council to work and legislate on internal laws, its constitution, and define the territorial division into municipalities.

«Once they do that, we can call for municipal elections in the territory of our Guayana Esequiba,» emphasized Cabello who also added, however, that the party is already working on that specific process.

On June 3 was installed the first Legislative Council of the Bolivarian State of Guayana Esequiba. In the historic ceremony, the elected legislators pledged to legislate in accordance with the Constitution and the laws and to develop regulations that promote the progress and well-being of the 24th state of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Arsenio González was appointed as president of the Board of Directors, accompanied by Julio Cova as vice president. Kenny Vargas was also appointed secretary, while José Rodríguez assumed the position of undersecretary.
