Head of State Congratulates New Pontiff Leo XIV

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, extended his congratulations to Robert F. Prévost, who was elected this Thursday as the new Pope Leo XIV. In an official message, the Head of State expressed his support and best wishes for the pontificate of the successor of Saint Peter.

He also highlighted the importance of this appointment for the global Catholic community and expressed his hope in the continuation of the legacy of His Holiness Francis. In his remarks, he stated: «We hope that your pastoral guidance will continue the valuable legacy of His Holiness Francis, Jorge Bergoglio. We trust in the fruition of the important advances made under your wise guidance, now under the new leadership.»

Likewise, the national leader raised the request for the prompt completion of the canonization causes of Blessed Mother Carmen Rendiles and Dr. José Gregorio Hernández. In this regard, he emphasized: «Their exemplary lives and proven holiness are beacons of hope and inspiration for our Venezuelan people, who fervently long to see them elevated to the altars.»

In his message, he reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to Christian principles and the Catholic Church, as well as the religious fervor of the people. «From Venezuela, the Catholic and Christian people reaffirm their unwavering commitment of fidelity to Christ and the Church, in communion with the Holy Father”.
