Head of State reaffirms commitment to Peace and Historical Remembrance in Moscow

  • We come to bring the firm, courageous, and supportive greetings of the Venezuelan people, inspired by the spiritual strength of the Liberator Simón Bolívar and the Supreme and Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez, and of a people who gives the fight against Nazi-fascism and imperialism,” stated the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, in statements upon his arrival in Moscow, Russia.
  • The president noted that Venezuela’s presence in Moscow represents the ratification of the path toward peace, understanding, and respect between states. He also highlighted the Venezuelan people’s deep historical admiration for the heroism of the Russian people, whose sacrifice was decisive in the victory against fascist barbarism.
  • The head of state emphasized the importance of commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War with sensitivity and historical awareness.
  • He also recalled that April 30th marked the fall of Berlin and that the surrender of the Nazi army to the Soviet Red Army is now honored: “The Soviet Union sacrificed 27 million lives, resisted in Moscow, Stalingrad, and Leningrad, and ultimately brought liberation to Europe. Europe must recognize that it was the Red Army that ended the Nazi-fascist threat and liberated humanity from its oppression. It then discovered the concentration camps where six million Jews died, thus liberating humanity from the great Nazi-fascist threat,” he stated.
  • We are here with the strength of the Bolivarian people, telling President Putin, the Russian people, and the peoples of what was the Soviet Union: Here it is Venezuela, always firm,” he concluded.
