The National Electoral Council appointed a group of national prosecutors to inspect everything related to the electoral contest, given that the candidates’ campaign for the May 25 elections began on April 29.
The information was released by the principal rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Conrado Pérez, in an interview with a private media outlet, where he emphasized that «all activities are being carried out wonderfully well.»
«We have absolute confidence as the National Electoral Council, or at least I speak on a very personal level; I have great respect and confidence in all those who are running,» he stated.
In this regard, he asserted, «I don’t think they’re going to seek to create campaigns or spaces for what we called dirty campaigns or anything like that, but I hope that when this is over, it will be a great reunion.»
He also called on the Venezuelan people to participate and assume the right to vote «because nothing and no one benefits from abstention» and questioned the fact that «you can have a favorable or opposing opinion about a candidate or a political organization, but the fundamental thing is always to participate.»
«The State needs us, the municipality needs us, the nation needs us, and it needs us with will, with enthusiasm, with unity, and fundamentally with a vision for the future. If we don’t build a future, we won’t move forward as a nation,» he expressed.
Furthermore, he stated that a campaign must be created that further encourages citizen participation. «I have always believed that the National Electoral Council must be among the people, not exclusively for elections.
