The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated the 215th anniversary of Venezuela’s independence:

«April 19, 1810! The day on which the brave Venezuelan people gave their first cry and unleashed the beginning of a heroic history of struggle for freedom, independence, equality, and against colonialism in all its forms,» he wrote in a message shared on social media.

Likewise he emphasized that «it was in our historic and beloved Caracas where zambos, mestizos, mulattos, and patriotic soldiers, united as militiamen of the people, told the Captain General of the Spanish crown: ‘Enough is enough, get out of Venezuela!'» And thus was initiated a marvelous journey, which we can consider the first cry of a new era.»

Also, he emphasized that «we commemorate 215 years since that heroic moment, and the people is the same, the battle is the same, and victory belongs to us. Today, that same people who was excluded, exploited, and enslaved is in political power in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We will continue to be free and sovereign!»
