President Maduro reiterated Guayana Esequiba is Venezuelan territory

During his «Con Maduro Live de Repente” (With Maduro Suddenly Live) program, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, spoke out about the situation in the territory of Guayana Esequiba, reaffirming his position on Venezuelan sovereignty.

The head of state recalled that a vote was held on December 13, 2023, in which more than 90 percent of Venezuelans «approved the creation of the state of Guayana Esequiba and the advancement of a constitutional legal process, within the framework of international law, for the recovery of Guayana Esequiba.»

In this regard, the president reiterated that Venezuelan citizens are aware of their reality, after statements of that «Guayana Essequibo is not Venezuelan” made by the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Venezuela’s extreme-right wing opposition leaders, María Machado and González Urrutia.

He also addressed Navy and Army officers, stressing that the country’s military is clear on the issue: «Guayana Essequibo is Venezuelan territory, inherited from Simón Bolívar and the liberators,» he said.

He reiterated his rejection of the statements by Rubio and his allies, and emphasized that «historical rights, documents, maps, and history support that Guayana Essequibo is Venezuelan territory.»
