More than 1,200,000 Venezuelans have returned through the Vuelta a la Patria (Return to the Homeland) Plan, as reported the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, after signing his document in support of the Venezuelan migrants arbitrarily detained in El Salvador.
In this regard, he emphasized that this program has allowed thousands of families to reunite and has provided support to those who wish to return in a safe manner.
He indicated that the Bolivarian Government has strongly condemned international policies that stigmatize and persecute Venezuelan migrants. In this regard, he described these actions by the United States and El Salvador as violations of international law.
He also denounced the situation in El Salvador, where the territory has been used as a concentration camp for migrants, which he considers a grave injustice: «Migration is a human right, and so is returning to one’s homeland,» he stated.
He emphasized that the National Government continues to defend the rights of Venezuelans in multilateral forums and promote actions to guarantee their safe return. He stressed that these actions serve to counter the persecution promoted by right-wing sectors and reaffirm the commitment to Venezuelan citizens.
«And we have demanded it. President Nicolás Maduro sent a communication to both the Secretary General of the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Tour, who, strangely enough, have remained somewhat silent until now, but we will continue to apply pressure,» he said.
