The Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, presented this Monday during a press conference, evidence of the lobbying carried out by ExxonMobil against oil licensees in Venezuela.
The Minister of Hydrocarbons also showed a sheet in which it said: «Sanctions on Venezuelan oil means less money, less power,» adding that these are the decisions of those who have power in the US, explaining that in that document they ask for more internal political pressure, referring to the failed attempts at a coup d’état, magnificence and trying to undermine the territorial unity of the country.
Rodríguez continued to show compelling evidence and explained that the document was intended to influence the authorities of the United States administration in Venezuela in order to apply more sanctions against the country, including the prohibition of Chevron’s operations, thus causing economic suffering in the population and in order to generate a political change. She highlighted that among the authors of this document is Juan Zarate, known as «the architect of sanctions» against several nations of the world.
Likewise, the vice president denounced that, might something happens to any high authority of the National Government, she holds ExxonMobil directly responsible, due to the plans it has against Venezuela.
In her statements, she pointed out that the extremist opposition figures, among whom are Leopoldo López, Juan Guaidó, Carlos Vecchio, María Corina Machado (who boasts of asking for more sanctions), should be designated as a transnational criminal organization for the theft of Venezuela’s assets, in addition to the damage they have caused through what she considers to be an «illegitimate, illicit and criminal blockade.»
She recalled that the ExxonMobil company came to the nation in 1920 to exploit oil in Lake Maracaibo, and it was in 2006 when the real nationalization carried out by former President Hugo Chávez, where a scheme of exploitation of mixed companies was passed, that Exxon Mobil left Venezuela, assuring that they did not leave happy but full of hatred for the nation. «And they said, we are going for revenge against Venezuela”.
«In 2015, Exxon Mobil declared a world-famous discovery in the disputed territory (Essequibo), they say there are large oil and gas reserves there (…) In January 2016, a meeting took place between the former president of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, David Granger and his team, together with senior management of Exxon Mobil in Guyana,» she explained at a press conference.
