In an emotional statement through his social networks, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, expressed his deep gratitude to Pope Francis for the recent canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, known as the «doctor of the poor people.»
This historic gesture is considered by the President as a true gift for the Venezuelan Homeland and a recognition of the instinct of compassion that has characterized the life of the illustrious doctor.
The head of State highlighted the importance of this canonization, stating: «The whole Venezuela thanks Pope Francis for his historic gesture of canonizing the ‘doctor of the poor people‘, our Saint, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández; it is a great step and gift that he has made to our Homeland.»
In his remarks, he also highlighted Hernández’s legacy, stressing that «in life he was the protector of the most humble ones and that he has always performed the miracle of health and life for those who have needed it the most.»
In addition, President Maduro extended his prayers for the Pope’s health, saying: «I thank the Pope for this gesture with Venezuela, especially at this time when we all pray for his health, well-being and recovery.»
With a call for gratitude, he emphasized the value of reciprocity in human relations: «Love is repaid with love!»
