The Minister of People’s Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, denied the claims about the alleged capture of the extreme-rightwing leader, María Corina Machado.
During his speech, Cabello stressed that the Venezuelan people long to live in peace:
«Enough of lies against the country and against the people. This country wants to live in peace and tranquility,» he stressed.
Machado, through a message on her Instagram account, tried to spread the idea of her arrest by the country’s security agencies.
In her publication, the opposition leader contradicted her own Vente Venezuela campaign command and the former candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, who had requested her release through a message posted on social media.
Later, in a video in which she appears hidden under a hood, Machado claimed to be “well, safe and free,” after an alleged persecution that led her to lose some of her belongings when leaving a rally that brought together dozens of people: “I am fine now, safe,” she declared.
Machado’s appearance calls into question the statements backed by Human Rights Watch and the governments of Spain, Italy and Panama, which had demanded her immediate release.
Likewise, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, recommended Machado “to find a job and get to work before madness consumes her,” referring to the misinformation she tried to use to cover up the failure of extremism in Venezuela.
It should be remembered that, years ago, Machado starred in a (leaked) audio in which she admitted to her mother, María Parisca, that she had pretended to be the victim of an attack.
In that conversation, she assured her: “Mommy, I am in the office. We are fine. But look, there’s going to be a news story that we were in 23 de Enero and they fired some shots at us and some things, just so you know.»
