Venezuela expressed its firm rejection of Israel’s membership in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic, Claudia Salerno Caldera, requested the director general of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, to carry out a legal assessment of Israel’s participation in this board, in coordination with the Legal Office of the UN General Secretariat in New York.
Ambassador Salerno mentioned that the main representative of the Hebrew regime, currently persecuted by international justice, has declared the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, as «persona non grata.» She also stressed that the Hebrew regime has attacked UN forces and publicly challenged the United Nations system.
The IAEA, founded in 1957 and based in Vienna, Austria, is intended to serve as a forum for scientific and technical cooperation to promote the contribution of nuclear energy to global peace, health and prosperity. This specialized government agency belongs to the United Nations and focuses on areas of work such as technological and physical security, as well as science and technology.
Venezuela considers that Israel’s presence on the IAEA Board of Governors contradicts the principles of the United Nations Charter and the norms of International Law. Ambassador Salerno reiterated Venezuela’s position in defense of an international system based on respect and cooperation.
This rejection is framed in a context of global tensions and Venezuela’s firm commitment to justice and international peace, where it underlines the need for a thorough and transparent evaluation of Israel’s participation in the IAEA.
