The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, called for a new National Popular Consultation, to be held on August 25; an announcement he offered during the First National Meeting of Communal Circuits, held in Barquisimeto city, Lara state. Likewise, he authorized the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, to approve the funds necessary to finance the projects that came in second place, during the Consultation on April 21:
“I committed myself, and to the community whose project is chosen by popular vote, I will finance the project that came in second place, immediately,” declared the national Executive. Likewise, he instructed Vice President Rodríguez to “proceed to deposit the money to those 220 communities.”
“I call for a new National Consultation on August 25, to vote for the project chosen by the 4,500 communal projects. «Democracy, elections, People’s Power!» exclaimed President Maduro. Additionally, he announced that “we are going to hold a quarterly consultation, four consultations a year, for infrastructure projects and public services, selected by you at the base, without interference from bureaucrats or technocrats!”, as expressed by the national leader.
This initiative emanating from both the People’s Power and the Communal Power, is described by the head of State as the “only formula there is”, to prevent Venezuela from being dominated by a “system of savage capitalism” and “regressing towards a democracy.” of oligarchic elites and minorities.” Consequently, these actions will allow the country to “move towards a direct democracy where the people has the power.”
