“Venezuela and Colombia are in permanent encounter and reunion, two peoples who are one, who without a doubt are Siamese brothers, as has been said so many times in our history and who must delve deeper into the steps of integration and beyond, in union,» expressed the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, to his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, after the meeting held at Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, as part of the Colombian president’s fifth official visit to country.
“I thank President Petro for this good conversation, a good meeting with our work teams and in private, reviewing how the relationship between Colombia and Venezuela is evolving and progressing, and the new opportunities that are opening up in the fields of transportation, trade, economy, alternative and traditional energy, joint investments and projects that must continue the route of permanent meeting between our nations,” reported the head of state, during a brief press conference, at the end of the meeting at the Presidential Palace.
In the presidential conversation, both leaders reviewed the conflicts on the continent, the meetings of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the genocide of Israel against Palestine, and the issues of threats of violence in the world, in general, “and the need to carefully preserve, with good offices, the joint, mancomunated effort of peace in our South American region.”
Maduro said that the issue of peace between both nations is recurring in President Petro’s vision in all the conversations he has held:
“President Petro, Venezuela is always ready, willing and at the service of you and the Colombians, to help, beyond what we can, to build the peace of Colombia, because it is also the peace of Venezuela.”
The National President reiterated to the senior Colombian visitor that the political, economic and social peace of Venezuela is the tranquility of Colombia and, for that reason alone, both peoples and governments must always see each other with views of cooperation, brotherhood and understanding. “And I think that has prevailed in this meeting, in the meeting with the work teams and in the private meeting.”
Finally, President Maduro concluded his intervention, with effusive gratitude for Petro’s presence and spirit of brotherly work, “You know, president, that Venezuela is your homeland, open to you as president and to the people of Colombia”.
