Renewed media campaign against Venezuela affects migrants in the US

International media have started an opinion matrix to link Venezuelan migrants with dangerous criminal gangs that operate in the United States, which will cause a new stage of xenophobia against fellow citizens who have found it necessary to leave Venezuela due to the illegal unilateral coercive measures that have affected our economy.

This was reported on the X social network by the sectoral vice president for Communication, Culture and Tourism, Freddy Ñáñez, who showed reports by media such as VozMediaUSA and CNN in which is falsely detailed that the crime increase in the USA is caused by the presence of members of the Aragua Train in US territory:

I denounce the reissue of a media campaign against Venezuela that directly affects our migrant population. With paid Posts (…) and a swarm of bots and right-wing influencers, the aim is to inoculate a dangerous matrix of opinion that fallaciously links Venezuelans with armed gangs that operate in the US. The new wave of xenophobia is accompanied by an implicit threat from the empire that since Obama’s decree seeks to stigmatize Venezuela,” he warned in the message.

Ñáñez revealed that behind these campaigns is the alleged blackmail of sectors of the Venezuelan extreme right wing that try to sow anxiety in the population by calling to vote for certain opposition candidates so that migration stops:

We all know that criminal sanctions are the main cause of migration and we know well the faces and surnames of those who requested them at the time and those who continue to defend them despite the damage they do to our people. That is why the vulgar blackmail that is being promoted is striking and is summarized like this: ‘If you don’t vote for the right wing, there will be more migration,'” the minister explained.

In this sense, he recalled that Venezuelan migration is a consequence of a brutal economic war waged more than 10 years ago against our country that has made it difficult to purchase food and medicines, among other items.

Ñáñez also indicated that foreign media do not refer to the return of thousands of Venezuelans to their land, through the government program Vuelta a la Patria (Return to the Homeland) Plan, becoming “the only migrant population that returns to their country of origin.”

Venezuelan migration is part of a double phenomenon: 1- it was induced by the economic war; 2-it is the only migrant population that returns to its country of origin,” he noted.

However, the minister emphasizes, “neither the US nor the Venezuelan extreme right have done anything to alleviate the sanctions and allow the conditions for mass repatriation,” which is why he warned that “the propaganda use of Venezuelan migration has a very clear objective: To justify any aggression against our country.”
