The National Assembly (AN) agreed to maintain permanent dialogue with 97% of the political parties registered in the National Electoral Council (CNE) and, in this sense, formed a consultation and action body with representatives of 41 parties, as reported this Wednesday the president of the Legislative Branch, deputy Jorge Rodríguez (PSUV/Capital District), from the Federal Legislative Palace.
The parliamentarian explained that this agreement, approved unanimously, is the result of the debate of the seventh round of consultations and conversations of the Great Day of National Dialogue for the Preparation of the Calendar of the 2024 Presidential Elections, which was held in the Protocol Chamber with the political sector.
He pointed out that these groups, which represent 97% of the political parties, represent opposition, liberal, and right-wing sectors, which heeded the call of the National Parliament: “We already agreed to form a permanent political body for consultation and discussion, it was a unanimous decision that we made today,” said Rodríguez.
The parliamentarian pointed out that he proposed to the political organizations to create a work plan that contemplates the audited financing of the parties, equal opportunities in the management of the media and social networks of the different forces and generate an agreed document for the organization of the 2024 presidential election.
In this sense, he explained that this plan will contain the basic principles with which the presidential electoral process should govern and a proposed draft electoral calendar and electoral guarantees.
He maintained that although the electoral parameters are established in the Constitution and the laws, what is sought with the work plan is to land on a consensual document that is signed by all political parties.
The highest authority of the Legislature specified that this Wednesday there will be a first draft of the proposed electoral schedule, which will be presented in the coming days before the CNE. Still, he said they will receive proposals on Thursday.
They expect – he pointed out – to present to all the organizations that have participated in the round of dialogue the proposal for the final document next Friday, February 16, and hold another work journey on the following Monday:
“In order for us to consider signing, with the political organizations, businessmen, workers, all of us who participated in this round of consultation, to constitute a base document that will be brought before the CNE,” he noted.
