AN will file an appeal for protection before the TSJ in defense of the Consultative Referendum for Essequibo

The National Assembly (AN) will go this Wednesday before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) with the purpose of introducing a Draft Appeal in Defense of the Consultative Referendum for the Territory of Guayana Esequiba, which will take place on December 3, 2023.

This was reported by the president of the Legislative Branch, deputy Jorge Rodríguez (PSUV/ Capital district), who rejected the claims by the government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana that is trying to annul the referendum before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and thus attack the will of the Venezuelan people expressed in article 71 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

Rodríguez invited the main and alternate deputies, along with their families and social movements, to accompany him to a rally near the National Pantheon in Caracas, to then go to the highest court in the country to deliver an injunction “with the purpose of defend our political, constitutional and electoral rights,” he said.

He assured that Guyana, acting as a subsidiary of the ExxonMobil oil company, requested before the ICJ the repeal of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the elimination of article 71: “for the doors of the National Assembly to be closed, for the deputies to declare ourselves in dismissal until we apologize for having called the consultative referendum,” said Rodríguez.

The president of the Legislature highlighted that, with the launch of the call for a referendum, there is a fervor that runs through the four cardinal points of the country and the immense majorities want to go to vote this December 3 to propose the new course of the struggle history of Venezuela for the recovery of Essequibo: “Every mother, father, girl, boy, young person, grandfather, grandmother, has made of their own the love and the battle cry to recover our Guayana Esequiba.”

Rodríguez indicated that it is almost laughable that someone thinks that, after having faced the former president of the United States, Donald Trump; In the face of the worst aggression the country has experienced in 150 years, “so a thing called the International Court of Justice is going to come and suspend the Consultative Referendum, and we are going to stay silent. I hope they do, because that will further strengthen our indignation, determination and desire that tomorrow will be December 3, to stand in front of that voting machine and say yes five times to the rescue, respect and defense of our Guayana Esequiba.”, he pointed out.
