Maestro Román Chalbaud, a prolific filmmaker, playwright, film, theater and television director, teacher of generations, died this Tuesday, September 12 in Caracas, as reported the Minister of People’s Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, when announcing the confirmation of the decease, through his social networks:

On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro Moros, and all the workers of the Ministry of Culture, I express our regret for his departure and condolences to his family and loved ones,” he said on his account @VillegasPoljak.

Villegas reported that the legendary filmmaker died in his apartment in San Bernardino, in the Venezuelan capital, and extended his gratitude to the team of doctors and nurses, as well as Alejandro Pineda and the maestro‘s other loved ones, who cared for him until the last second of his life.

The minister reported that he was the oldest active filmmaker in the history of world cinema, because until recently, at 91 years old, he directed some scenes from the filming of his latest film, Muñequita linda, where he received support from his colleagues and disciples of Venezuelan cinema.

With ample merits he enters the pantheon of the most distinguished sons of this country, having been for decades the embodiment of the Venezuelan affirmation. “Honor and glory, Maestro!” expressed Villegas.
