President Maduro commemorates 24 years of the first electoral triumph of the undefeated Commander Hugo Chávez

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Tuesday the 24th anniversary of the first electoral victory of Commander Hugo Chávez on December 6, 1998, where he reached 56.20% of the votes in the presidential contest:

“This December 6 marks the 24th anniversary of the first electoral victory of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías by winning the presidential elections in Venezuela with immense popular support,” said the national president through his account on the Twitter social network.

On December 6, 1998, Hugo Chávez was elected President for the first time with 56.20% of the votes, putting an end to the bipartisanship exercised by the Acción Democrática and Copei parties, who handed the country over to neoliberal interests.

Hugo Chávez vows to transform Venezuela:

On February 2, 1999, Hugo Chávez assumed the presidency of Venezuela with an oath that marked the beginning of a profound process of change: “I swear before God, I swear before the Homeland, I swear before my people that on this moribund Constitution (1961) I will promote the necessary democratic transformations so that the new Republic has an appropriate Magna Carta for the new times. I swear!”.

In the first speech for the country, of whom he would later become the top leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, he expressed:

“This Friday, December 11, will be a memorable day for all Venezuelans, as it will mark the beginning of new paths towards the construction of a new Homeland.”

“I swear today by the desert, by those who were left in the desert, by those who are planted today under the earth, by those who cry, by those who moan, I swear and ask God for will, perseverance and strength to live up to this and I swear I will deliver on what we have announced. I will only be an instrument of the Nation’s voice. No more no less. An instrument of the national collective. And I ask all those who have responsibility in one way or another, in what is happening in Venezuela and in what is going to happen, to assume that responsibility with height”, said the Commander at the end of his speech, after being known the results on that 1998.

24 years ago a new historical stage began in our country; The resounding electoral victory of Commander Chávez put an end to the bipartisanship that, for more than 40 years, delivered the country. Today we have People’s Power and an inclusive, free and sovereign Homeland. Long live Chavez! pic.twitter.com/Wp8fbHy9RK”
