President Maduro held meeting with UN Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting on Monday with Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The meeting was held at Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, where Martin Griffiths was welcomed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carlos Faría.

Griffiths arrived in the country last Sunday and his visit is scheduled to last until Tuesday. The agenda of activities carried out in Caracas “seeks to support ongoing efforts to address humanitarian and social needs; strengthen the provision of basic services”, as he added.

The OCHA representative also held a meeting with the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez Gómez, at the Federal Legislative Palace, to address various issues of interest.

After his arrival in Venezuela, Griffiths held a meeting with different United Nations agencies, as well as with national and international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that make life in the country.
