The National Government, through the Ministry of People’s Power for Health, confirmed the detection of the first monkeypox case within the national territory.

Through a message published through her account on the Twitter social network @MagaGutierrezV, the Minister for Health, Magaly Gutiérrez Viña reported that thanks to the epidemiological fence that remains active at the Maiquetía International Airport, was detected this first suspected case of monkeypox in the national territory.

The message explains that it would be a patient arriving from the city of Madrid, Spain, who would have had contact with two infected people in Barcelona, ​​a city in that European nation.

The message confirms that the screening carried out yielded positive results. The patient remains in stable conditions and the authorities carry out screening in the chain of potential infections to expand the corresponding epidemiological fence.
