President Maduro: Venezuela is among the countries with the best performance against COVID-19

The positive results in terms of vaccination and infection control place Venezuela “among the countries with the best performance in the fight against COVID-19”, as emphasized the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, this Monday:

All the indicators place Venezuela among the countries with the best performance in the fight against the Coronavirus. We have managed to mitigate and control the Pandemic, facing the impact of 502 unilateral coercive measures and criminal sanctions against our People”, he emphasized.

During his intervention at the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council, he explained that the vaccination goal reaches 102%, while a 97% of the 508,000 registered cases have fully recovered.

He also pointed out that the pandemic “has exacerbated existing injustice and deep inequalities”, expressing itself in the disparity in access to vaccines and treatments in low-income countries.

Referring to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), he specified that only 10% of the population of low-income countries received the COVID-19 vaccine, while 0.4% of the tests carried out in the world have been applied in countries with poor economies.

In this sense, he advocated raising the multilateral effort and the political will “to defend human life above pharmaceutical profits.”

Sanctions threaten human rights:

The Venezuelan Head of State ruled at the same time that the 502 unilateral coercive measures imposed against Venezuela “have violated the human rights of our people and the right to development.”

He indicated that the illegal and misnamed “sanctions” seek to “destroy our economy, destabilize our democracy and put an end to the inclusive social model built by the Bolivarian Revolution.”
