This Monday, the National Assembly (AN) convened the national public consultation on the Reform Project of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), which was attended by magistrates and judges, as well as representatives of the Public Ministry, the Ombudsman’s Office, People, Public Defense, rectors of eight universities in the country, civil society and the People’s power.
This was reported by the president of the Parliament’s Permanent Committee on Domestic Policy, deputy Pedro Carreño, who recalled that on December 30 this project was approved in first discussion and that, therefore, this public consultation has been opened.
To this end, five working groups were formed this Monday to collect the proposals and concerns, whose reports will be presented this same day, in the afternoon, in the plenary session of the Permanent Commission.
Then, the legislation subcommittee will have the task of systematizing, evaluating and reviewing the contributions. Subsequently, at 7:00 pm this Monday, the Internal Policy Commission will debate and approve in plenary the final report of the reform project that will be sent to the Secretariat, so that it can be approved by the National Assembly in the coming days.
Carreño reported that among the proposals is the incorporation of an article in the law to establish the obligation of the annual rendering of accounts by the magistrates.
In this regard, he explained that once the bill to reform the law is approved by Parliament and sent to the Executive for promulgation and publication in the Official Gazette, the Internal Policy Commission will present a proposal for a partial reform of the Internal Regulations and Debates «so that this act of accountability of the magistrates is at the beginning of the year», with a special commission that receives their reports, «that makes the evaluation and in case of failing, activate the constitutional mechanism for their removal».
