President Nicolás Maduro demands the lifting of sanctions and elimination of financial persecution at the UN

During his speech before the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations, the Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of 30 million Venezuelans, demanded the lifting of all sanctions applied by the government of the United States and the European Union, actions considered crimes against humanity, which have negatively impacted the living conditions of the people of Venezuela.

The Venezuelan Head of State began the interventions of the leaders in the afternoon block of this second journey of sessions of the General Assembly.

In his speech, he denounced the fierce campaign unleashed against Venezuela from the elites of Europe and the United States, through which they have wanted to make instrumental the international organizations in order to justify criminal attacks against the people of Venezuela.

He emphasized that it is a constant attack and persecution against the right to economic, financial, commercial, energy, economic, cruel and systematic freedom, with years of threats through direct aggression campaigns: “It is a financial, monetary persecution, a commercial, economic, energetic, systematic, cruel and criminal one. And Venezuela raises its voice to denounce it before the peoples of the world”.

The financial accounts are being persecuted, our gold from the legal international reserves of the Central Bank of Venezuela in London has been seized and blocked, billions of dollars in bank accounts have been seized and blocked (…) Venezuelan oil and mining companies, trade their products and open bank accounts in the world to pay, to collect and to carry out commercial transactions freely, as contemplated by international law”, he alerted.

Support for dialogue:

Likewise, he explained that in matters of internal politics, Venezuela has installed several tables for dialogue with the social and political sectors, highlighting the national dialogue initiative activated in Mexico, which includes all the political factors of the nation.

After thanking the government of Mexico for hosting the dialogue process between the Government of Venezuela and the opposition, he requested the support of the United Nations so that the dialogue process in Mexico advances “towards a global agreement to strengthen peace, the sovereignty, prosperity and the integral recovery of Venezuela”, he pointed out.

He assured that despite the multiple aggressions and attacks, Venezuela has known how to overcome and face all circumstances, walking the paths of the institutionality that have allowed to reach the electoral process that Venezuela convened for next November 21 for the election of governors, mayors, as well as the new municipal and legislative council authorities.

These efforts have also allowed, in the opinion of the national president, that “the people with their great capacity for resilience and resistance remain standing”, initiating a period of sustained growth despite the maneuvers of economic, financial and commercial persecution:

We have gone from a cruel and painful phase, to a recovery phase with science, innovation, technology and the spiritual capacity of a working people who refuses to bend (…) We say to the peoples of the world with courage, with decision, with intelligence and wisdom: Yes, we can face the imperial aggressions and advance”, he emphasized.

A new UN:

In his message to the UN plenary, President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the importance of advancing “in the construction of the new humanity without hegemonic empires”.

“It is a new world that is reborn to end the old hegemons, to end with the pretense of some of becoming policemen and judges of all the peoples of the world, it is the time of sovereignty”

He stressed that “from this General Assembly affected by the pandemic, Venezuela raises its voice for a new world without colonialism, for a new world without imperialism, for a new world without a dominant hegemon, for a new world of sharing (..) Our people has known how to receive the solidarity of countries that have known how to listen to the voice of our profound people”, he said.

He also called on the representatives of the 194 countries present in the General Assembly to take effective action against climate change: “We need to make progress in the fight against climate change. We have seen how rivers and spaces that affect nature have overflowed due to the lack of effective measures”.
