Norway publishes Joint Communiqué with agreements reached this Monday at the Dialogue Table between the Government and the opposition

Through its official page Government.no, the government of Norway published a joint statement in which it ratifies the two agreements signed this Monday within the framework of the Dialogue and Negotiation Table installed in Mexico City between the official delegation of the Venezuelan government and the representatives of the opposition through the Unitary Platform.

In the statement, which can be read in its entirety at https://www.regjeringen.no/en/aktuelt/second_round_venezuela/id2870545/, along with the two agreements signed, the Norwegian government confirms that “the parties agreed to establish mechanisms for restoring and obtaining resources to meet the social needs of the population, with special emphasis on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including those coming from multilateral organizations to which the Republic is entitled”.

The text advances that “the parties agreed that the first point of discussion in the next round will refer to “Respect for the Constitutional Rule of Law”. In particular, will be discussed the justice system and respect for the institutional framework established in the Constitution”.

In addition, it is established that “the discussion will continue regarding the protection of the national economy and social protection measures for the Venezuelan people, including the Special Drawing Rights, provided for this purpose by the International Monetary Fund”.

The Table of the Dialogue and Negotiation process on Venezuela, installed in accordance with the Understanding Memorandum signed on August 13, 2021, met in Mexico City, United States of Mexico, from September 3 to 6, 2021, reaching two agreements entitled: “Agreement for the Ratification and Defense of the Sovereignty of Venezuela over Guayana Esequiba” and “Partial Agreement for the Social Protection of the Venezuelan People”.

The parties agreed to establish mechanisms for restoring and obtaining resources to meet the social needs of the population, with special emphasis on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including those from multilateral organizations to which the Republic is entitled.

The parties agreed that the first point of discussion in the next round will refer to “Respect for the Constitutional Rule of Law.” In particular, will be discussed the justice system and respect for the institutional framework established in the Constitution.

Progress was made in consultation mechanisms with political and social actors that are as inclusive as possible.
