Maduro a Covax: Send the vaccines or return the money

President Nicolás Maduro demanded the Covax system to send to the country the vaccines already paid for by the National Government to said mechanism, or to otherwise reimburse the resources that had been deposited in their accounts for eight weeks.

During the presentation of the weekly balance of actions to control and fight against Covid-19 in the country, the National President regretted that the Covax System has not offered answers to the country about this situation that negatively impacts the advance in the program of vaccination of the Venezuelan people:

“The Covax system has failed the people of Venezuela, we complied, 2 months ago we put the money in their accounts, doing magic to find resources that we had blocked, and they do not give us an answer, the Covax system has had Venezuelan resources frozen for eight weeks”, denounced Maduro.

In this regard, he announced that he has instructed Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to formalize the pertinent claim before the Covax system this week and give them an ultimatum: “Either you send us the vaccines, or you give us the money back, someone has their hands in there so that the vaccines do not arrive in Venezuela”, he warned.

He announced that the National Government has already articulated the necessary actions “with our older brother countries and by returning those resources to us, we already have the places where we will go to immediately bring millions of vaccines for the people of Venezuela”.

500,000 vaccinated per day:

In this context, President Nicolás Maduro announced the acceleration of the mass vaccination process, so that between the months of July, August and September the goal of daily vaccination is advanced until reaching 500,000 people vaccinated daily throughout the country.

For the month of October we must have about 70% of the population vaccinated. Venezuela today registers 2,508,201 vaccinated, which represents 11.4% of the population, and we already have the vaccines to reach the next goal, which is to reach 20% of the vaccinated population. Between July, August and September we are going to accelerate vaccination”, he assured.
