President Nicolás Maduro champions national delegation that will attend the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

In an act full of enormous symbolism and patriotic fervor, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, delivered the National Tricolor to the Venezuelan delegation that will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

During the activity, held at Miraflores Palace, the national president awarded the national flag to athletes Karen León and Nalej Korbaj, on behalf of the athletes classified for Tokyo 2020.

In his words, the Head of State emphasized feeling proud of the Golden Generation and the Venezuelan athletes who with their preparation “will bring those medals from Tokyo to the people”.

With deep emotion, Maduro reminded them that the National Tricolor that today received the Olympic athletes going to Tokyo, “is not just any flag, it is a heroic banner of values that became the banner that the troops of our Liberation Army carried during the war of independence”.

“That flag was carried by Bolívar together with the llaneros who crossed the Páramo de Pisba to fight the Battle of Boyacá and liberate what is now Colombia, because Colombia is free because Bolívar freed it, let nobody ever forget this”, said Maduro.

For this reason, he urged the Venezuelan athletes who will represent the country in Tokyo 2020 to remember what it means to carry this Flag “and that beautiful jacket that distinguishes us.”

The best preparation:

He recalled the Tokyo Olympic Games will be held one year after the scheduled time, due to the pandemic, before which he instructed to ensure that the Venezuelan Olympic delegation is correctly vaccinated in its entirety “so that they can devote themselves to their preparation for these Olympic Games”.

He finally urged the athletes to prepare well so that they arrive in Tokyo in top physical condition: “Prepare well so that you arrive in Tokyo in optimal physical and mental condition. Go to Tokyo with the passion of that tricolor”, he emphasized.

In this sense, he ordered the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mervin Maldonado, to provide all support to Venezuelan athletes: “We have to have a system to promote athletes, so that they have the best technicians and so that we can dream in the future with having thousands of athletes”, he instructed.

In the same way, President Maduro acknowledged the Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and decorated the young Aragüean Eva Guzmán, who a few days ago was crowned World Boxing Champion in flyweight, 112-pound division by the World Association of Boxing (WBA).
