Large cities must become productive areas for agriculture

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, during a meeting with authorities of the Ministry of People’s Power for Agriculture and also of the Communes and Social Movements, as well as the Sectoral Vice President for Social and Territorial Socialism, Eduardo Piñate, oriented three strategic lines dedicated to urban agriculture.

The Venezuelan head of state defined the first concept of converting cities into productive areas, so that each house, neighborhood, community and communal cities can produce the products of the land and raise animals:

This is how urban agriculture has come to our social life, converting cities into productive, dynamic cities with the same process of producing with our hands, of producing collectively, of producing in community, of generating new values of work, of solidarity, the new values of citizenship, of the Venezuelan identity”, said Maduro.

As a second edge, the issue of supply was addressed, which seeks to promote the production of products and food in communities and family homes, fulfilling a fundamental role that goes hand in hand with (the concept of) productive cities previously explained by the head of the national executive.

Thirdly, he guided the consolidation of the Productive People’s Power. In this way, he explained that territorial socialism comes into play for the dimensionalism of a new society. He explained that in large cities, where 80% of the population resides, agriculture implements the productive character of the people.

Cacique Tiuna:

In the Cacique Tiuna Communal City of Caracas, urban planting was put into practice, with the planting of vegetables ready for harvest.

In this space, more than 48 producers work more than 600 square meters of horticultural production. At this point, the items extracted from these fields are distributed to the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP).

Finally, the council of producers of this community participated in the attention against COVID-19. It was also highlighted by the spokesperson of this field that more than 2,500 kilograms of vegetables are sent directly to the National Institute of Nutrition, to later be transferred to the sanitary hotels in Caracas.
