Venezuela signs cooperation alliances and understanding memorandum with UN World Food Program

With the aim of strengthening action plans for the food security of the Venezuelan population, President Nicolás Maduro signed on Monday a cooperation alliance and a Memorandum of Understanding on the provision of assistance with the heads of the World Food Program (WFP), a body that is part of the United Nations (UN).

The signing of the document took place in the Sol del Perú Hall of Miraflores Palace, after a working session between President Nicolás Maduro and the Executive Director of the UN World Food Program, David Beasley.

It was reported that the purpose of the Understanding Memorandum «is to develop the terms under which the assistance operation will be implemented in Venezuelan territory, the operational plan of which is attached» to the sealed instrument.

Within this framework, the first agreement to be developed between Venezuela and the WFP will focus on the feeding of Venezuelan children at their earliest age, the most important for their integral development.

Working together for the people and children of Venezuela:

Following the signing of the agreements, the Executive Director of the World Food Program, David Beasley, stated that «we must not forget that we have to work together for the people and children of Venezuela.»

«It is in times like these that the United Nations comes together as brothers and friends to help those most in need to respond to the needs of children and everyone on the planet. We agree to work together and we hope to start working, we have a lot of work ahead of us,» he stressed.

For his part, President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the importance of the agreements signed to ensure the protection of the Venezuelan people and their food sovereignty.

«Carrying out food assistance programs for children in early education is the first step in a series of projects that will cover the entire Venezuelan people. The entire country applauds this step we have taken by signing this first agreement,» he emphasized.

Likewise, the Venezuelan President thanked the National Assembly and the work teams that have promoted the signing of this agreement.

«This is a great step, I ask my team for maximum audacity with these agreements, count on me, David Beasley, to communicate permanently and open the doors to new initiatives, the people of Venezuela thanks you and welcomes you», reiterated Maduro.

During his speech, the Head of State recalled that Venezuela and the WFP had already been working on the articulation of these efforts «and as you said, God’s timing is perfect and God’s timing led us to today, April 19, 2021. Today Venezuela celebrates 211 years since the cry of Freedom. The cry of rebellion», he said.

These actions are part of the commitment assumed by Venezuela in the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda, based on the various objectives aimed at sustainable development, and the absolute and comprehensive protection guaranteed by the Venezuelan Government to the people.

The Bolivarian Revolution has advanced in the course of two decades in the consolidation of a robust system of protection and social security through the missions and large missions, an example of which is the coverage of more than 6 million families in food protection throughout the national territory through the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP).
