Venezuela will produce vaccines against COVID19 in alliance with Cuba

This Thursday the executive vice president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that Venezuela, in alliance with Cuba, is advancing preparations to start the local production of the Abdala vaccine candidate, developed by the Caribbean nation.

To this end, Rodríguez visited the Espromed Bio Plant, located in the University City of Caracas, where she inspected the conditions for the production of the Abdala vaccine in the national territory.

In statements offered at the end of the visit, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez explained that the Cuban scientific delegation concluded a week of work at the Espromed Bio plant, during which they supervised the technical and logistical conditions to ensure the production of the vaccine against COVID-19.

The National Government, through the Ministry of Popular Power for Health, reviewed the final aspects for Venezuela’s participation in phase III of the Abdala vaccine, which will be completed in the coming weeks.

Vaccine candidates:

Regarding this tour and inspection of the Espromed Bio facilities, Rodríguez affirmed that it is part of the efforts directed by President Nicolás Maduro “for Venezuela to access the mass vaccination and immunity process.”

She recalled that there are currently five vaccine candidates developed by Cuba, an achievement of the Cuban Revolution despite the criminal blockade that the United States has suffered for six decades.

“While the world is truly engulfed in an abominable process of inequality and inequity in people’s access to the vaccine, Cuba is being an example of solidarity with the people,” she stressed.

In this sense, she criticized that a handful of rich countries are accumulating all vaccines, leaving the rest of the countries and peoples of the world without vaccines.

She affirmed that Venezuela has the conditions for the production of the vaccine against COVID-19, in addition to maintaining a process of permanent updating and adjustment that will allow to fine-tune all the necessary conditions for the prompt mass production of vaccines.

Similarly, the Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado, stressed that the Bolivarian Government remains in search of all alternatives for access to vaccines against COVID-19, in the alliance with Cuba, Russia, India, China and other countries.

Solidarity and commitment:

Vice President Delcy Rodriguez thanked the Cuban government led by President Miguel Díaz Canel and his people, for all the support they have given Venezuela in the fight against COVID-19: “Solidarity, cooperation can by itself fight and achieve a victory over this disease, we must unite, we must concentrate our efforts”.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Dagoberto Rodríguez highlighted that in the battle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuba and Venezuela are standing out as an example for the world in relations based on brotherhood, cooperation and solidarity.

I believe that the effort and struggle of our countries, of our presidents, of President Nicolás Maduro, of President Miguel Díaz Canel, not only for the well-being of our peoples and given the conditions imposed by this struggle, this confrontation with cruel sanctions of the empire against our countries, they force us to strengthen more and more that relationship of brotherhood and brotherhood that has characterized us”, he said.
