Venezuela starts on Monday vaccination journey with Chinese vaccine

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Friday that, starting on Monday, will begin the vaccination campaign with the Sinopharm vaccine, developed in the People’s Republic of China.

“On Monday will start the vaccination with the Chinese vaccine,” said the head of state during the plenary session of the Congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Recently, 500,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine arrived in the country, in order to complete the vaccination of essential personnel, and start with the teachers, with a view to the beginning of face-to-face classes next April.

In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, the National President urged the population to maintain biosecurity measures, after the detection of the Covid-19 coronavirus variant from Brazil, which has already taken the lives of two Venezuelans.

“We return to the extreme biosafety scheme in quarantines and in taking care of public activities (…) while we come out of this alarm situation due to the arrival of the Brazilian variant of COVID-19, which is much more virulent,” he emphasized.

As part of the measures, the Venezuelan President detailed, is the limitations of public acts and mobilizations.

In this sense, the demonstration that was called to celebrate Women’s Day was suspended.

Last Wednesday, President Nicolás Maduro reported on the arrival of the Brazilian variant in the country, after the detection of this strain in 10 positive Covid-19 patients.
