TSJ rejects coercive measures against State officials by the European Union

This Monday, the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) rejected the illegal measures imposed by the Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU) on 19 Venezuelan officials.

Its president, Maikel Moreno, said that the sanctions seek to violate the sovereignty of the Republic and the dignity of its people in Venezuela, as states a communiqué from the Supreme Court.

He added that the EU puts itself out of the international laws by trying to direct and evaluate the performance of public power servants.

«(…) We will not allow national and international laws to be violated and we will not renounce the oath to defend the independence, freedom, sovereignty and integrity of the nation,» he emphasized.

He explained that they are contradictory actions for the alleged violation of human rights, «when said sanctions are in themselves a violation» of human rights.

Earlier, the EU Foreign Affairs Council arbitrarily imposed unilateral coercive measures against 19 officials of the Venezuelan state.

The sanctions include high dignitaries and magistrates who are members of the public powers of the country, says a statement from the Venezuelan Executive.

Moreno indicated that the ultimate goal is to hinder peace and understanding among Venezuelans.

Among those mentioned are authorities of the Electoral and Judicial powers, as well as the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB).

The commander of the Operational and Strategic Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (CEOFANB), Remigio Ceballos.

Also the deputy of the Acción Democratica party (AD) José Bernabé Gutiérrez, for having participated in the parliamentary elections last December.

In addition, the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Indira Alfonzo Izaguirre, and the director of the Body of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations (CICPC), Douglas Rico.
