Venezuela will receive 10 million Sputnik V vaccines to combat COVID-19

The Head of State and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, reported that the people of Venezuela will have the Sputnik V vaccine for the first quarter of 2021.

In the battle against COVID-19, the Venezuelan government signed, on December 29, a contract with the Russian Federation for the acquisition of the drug, with which, in a first phase, 10 million people will be immunized:

“The vaccine will be an important response that will help balance, but the main battle is to take care of yourself,” said the President, referring to the distribution and application of the vaccine, which –as he explained- will be for the entire population that lives in the country without distinction of nationality.

“In Venezuela it will be distributed free of charge to the entire population that lives in Venezuela, regardless of country of origin,” he emphasized, while condemning the xenophobic announcement made by the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, not to authorize the application of the vaccine to Venezuelans residing in New Granadean territory.

The information was provided by the Executive when leading a meeting with Bolivarian Governors and Mayors in order to refine details for the application of Plan 200.
