«Spain becomes the center of the conspiracy, Madrid becomes the epicenter of the conspiracy against peace and democracy in Venezuela,» denounced the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, this Thursday.
After the departure of the Venezuelan, Leopoldo López, from the Spanish diplomatic headquarters located in Caracas, came to public light, President Maduro reported that he had received information “first hand» about the plans that the today fugitive from justice is brewing from Madrid city.
«I get first hand information, that Leopoldo López has arrived in Spain and has called a meeting of his political bosses who are abroad and has told them that he is going to have a speech calling for elections, but that war is coming underneath, that this gets to be solved with a war underneath”, he specified.
It is important to remember that López was sentenced in 2015, after being convicted of crimes of public instigation, association to commit a crime, among others, for which he had to pay 13 years in prison for being responsible for the death of 43 citizens when summoning an opposition demonstration at the beginning of 2014.
Of that sentence, 5 years and 2 months is the period of time that López served, since on April 30, 2019 he escaped from his residence, the place where he was serving house arrest, to carry out an attempted coup and later stay at the embassy of Spain in Venezuela.
In this regard, Maduro called on the Spanish authorities to take action against López, whom he also accused of planning and executing terrorist acts that aimed to end his life, among other crimes typified in Venezuelan law.
“The government of Spain has to take action on the matter. Which they did not do when they had this terrorist as an asylee, as a guest for more than a year and a half in their embassy here in Caracas (…) from there they organized the attacks to assassinate me, the armed incursion of May 3 that we defeated, from there violence was organized and attempted in October, which they failed”.
Finally, the Head of State and Government insisted that in Venezuela there are sectors of the extreme right that do not do politics peacefully, assuming their defeats.
«We do not have a peaceful political opposition, they are in a war plan, to take Madrid as the epicenter of conspiracy against Venezuela”, he reiterated.
