Venezuela considers inadmissible specifications of the EU to observe parliamentary elections

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela regrets that the European Union responds with a list of conditions to the invitation issued by the Venezuelan Electoral Power in order for it to be incorporated into the observation process of the Parliamentary elections, scheduled for December 6, 2020.

Through a communique issued by the Chancellory of the Republic, the country reiterates that this body insists on ignoring the efforts made by the Venezuelan State, by agreeing on a broad framework of guarantees with the different national political sectors.

Likewise, the country “expects the European Union to maintain an attitude consistent with the principles that govern International Law and limits itself to fulfilling a positive and respectful facilitation role”, as reads the statement.

Following, the communique:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela regrets the unfortunate communique published yesterday, September 30, by the European External Action Service of the European Union, which reflects a biased position on the conditions under which the Venezuelan people will sovereignly elect the new National Assembly on December 6.

The European External Action Service insists on ignoring the efforts made by the Venezuelan State in agreeing on a broad framework of guarantees with the different national political sectors, with the aim of further strengthening the already broad, secure and plural participation characteristic of the Venezuelan electoral system, regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Faced with the invitation formally made by the Electoral Power to join the observation process, it is regrettable that the European Union responds with a list of conditions with the pretense of ignoring even specific constitutional mandates, in an inadmissible act that does not correspond to the spirit of the invitation made, nor with the good atmosphere that in recent months has been developed in the relationship with the Government of Venezuela.

The broad support provided during the recent visit by EEAS officials to carry out an agenda at the highest level with the institutions of the Venezuelan State and various political actors, guaranteeing the proper biosafety protocols, is a sign of the irreducible willingness for dialogue productive and sincere by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros.

On December 6, in strict and due adherence to the provisions of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the twenty-fifth election in 20 years of the Bolivarian Revolution will be carried out freely and sovereignly. In this regard, the Venezuelan State will not admit interference or any pretended external guardianship of any nature. Consequently, Venezuela hopes that the European Union will maintain an attitude consistent with the principles that govern International Law and limits itself to fulfilling a positive and respectful facilitating role”.
