Attorney General: Colombia does not stop harassing and sending warmongering messages

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, denounced that the Government of Nariño does not stop harassing and sending warmongering messages against Venezuela, in alliance with the United States (USA), in pursuit of a coup d’etat against the institutions of the country:

“The neighboring country (Colombia) has not stopped harassing and always sending warmongering, negative messages, totally outside of international law. Even in these hours that are running, of a real threat, regarding a presumed military incursion to favor the imperial plans of the United States of America”, he said after statements on the actions of the Public Ministry (MP) in relation to criminal acts in the national territory.

In this sense, Saab considered that “it cannot be possible that during this week there was held a meeting between the President of that country, Iván Duque, and a delegation of President Trump; made up by the National Security Advisor Robert O’Bryan, the Chief of the Southern Command, Craig Faller and the Special Adviser for the Western Hemisphere, Mauricio Claver Carone”, says a press release.

“They did not went to talk about international humanitarian law, how to assist people amidst this pandemic, how to distribute medicine or foodstuffs. No, they went to talk about how to increase the attacks against Venezuela at a time when Trump is in a very compromising situation in the polls for the November elections in the US”, said the highest authority of the Public Minisry.

In the Attorney General’s view, the meeting between Duque and Trump representatives was aimed at “capturing extremist votes with advertisements against our country”.

For this reason, he echoed the complaints made by the Colombian deputy María José Pizarro; as well as Senators Iván Cepeda and Gustavo Petro in the face of a hypothetical US invasion from Colombian territory; in clear violation of the sovereignty of the nation:

“It is an unacceptable thing that we, as the Public Ministry, strongly reject”, said Saab.

In this context, the Attorney General regretted that Duque did not increase his efforts to serve citizens affected by the pandemic caused by Covid-19.

“Colombia has not taken care of its compatriots, it has almost 490,000 confirmed cases, of which 15,619 have unfortunately deceased”, said Saab; who added that in the US there are about 5.5 million confirmed cases.
