Authorities held a special event for Flag Day

This Monday, National Government authorities celebrated Flag Day with a special act in the spaces of the National Pantheon, in Caracas, on the 214th anniversary of the national symbol that was waved for the first time in La Vela de Coro, Falcón state , by Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda.

“We come to pay tribute to the National Flag and to tell the Liberator Simón Bolívar, Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda and all the men and women who shed their blood for the freedom and independence of this people, that despite coercive measures and unilateral imposed by the United States and its allies, this heroic people is resisting”, said the Minister for Education, Aristóbulo Istúriz.

He recalled that in 2006, Commander Hugo Chávez asked to change the date of celebration of this patriotic symbol, which was previously celebrated on March 12, as a tribute to Miranda.

“It is a historical rectification for Francisco de Miranda, the Forerunner, the most universal of patriots, when he came from New York to Haiti and raised the National Flag for the first time from there”, he added.

Likewise, he highlighted that that same year the Bolivarian Revolution rescued the historical memory and the dream of Simón Bolívar, adding the eighth star to the National Flag, representing the province of Guayana, as reports a press release.
