The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro reported on Thursday that the Governor of Zulia state, Omar Prieto, and the President of the National Constituent Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The Venezuelan head of state explained that Prieto had presented discomfort, for which reason he was asked to carry out the detection test for the virus.
«I want to report that our brother, Omar Prieto, governor of Zulia state, also presented some discomfort. I immediately said “stop for a moment, and we’re going to test you”. We did the tests, and he was positive for coronavirus”, said the National President from Miraflores Palace, in Caracas.
In this sense, he announced that Prieto is receiving the necessary treatments for his speedy recovery.
“We Bolivarians, we the warriors are at the fore. Treatment, the doctors, as we do with all our people”, stressed the Venezuelan president.
In this regard, President Maduro emphasized the need to take care of and maintain preventive measures to stop the chain of infections.
The information was confirmed by the state’s own governor on the Twitter social network.
“People of Zulia, thank you for so many messages of affection. I report that after undergoing a Covid-19 real-time PCR testing, I have tested positive. It is the risk that, likewise, our doctors, nurses and firefighters assume. We are in battle and stable. God with us, we shall overcome!” Wrote Prieto on the social network.
Prieto becomes the first regional governor to test positive for the virus, and the second socialist leader to be infected.
During the broadcast, President Nicolás Maduro also reported that the president of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), Diosdado Cabello, tested positive for Covid-19.
The information was also confirmed by Cabello himself on the social network.
“Dear colleagues, I comply with informing that after having undergone the corresponding tests, I have tested positive for Covid 19, and from now on I am on isolation, following the indicated treatment, thanks for your good wishes, with high morale. We shall overcome!” wrote Cabello on the social network.
