Venezuela confirms 302 new COVID-19 cases this Tuesday

Venezuela reported 302 new cases of COVID-19 infection, detected in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected to 5,832.

This was announced by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, from the Government Palace during the meeting of the Presidential Commission for the Prevention, Attention and Control of COVID-19.

The Vice President explained that 175 of those infected correspond to community transmission, geographically located in the states: Zulia (99), Capital District (25), Táchira (15), Sucre (11), Mérida (7), Miranda (6), Lara (5), Bolívar (5), La Guaira (1) and Aragua (1).

Regarding the remaining 127 cases, these are imported cases coming from Colombia (79), Brazil (27) and Chile (1); Of these, 20 people have been infected by contact with travelers.

Venezuela up to date raises the death toll from the new Coronavirus to 51 people; when three new deaths were reported this Tuesday: “A 77-year-old woman from Lara state, the second a 53-year-old man from Trujillo, and the third; an 84-year-old man from Yaracuy state”, she detailed.

In the case of the outbreaks in Zulia state, Rodríguez pointed out that the strategies for the containment and eradication of the transmission chain are being evaluated: “We have reinforced the medical and medicines presence, we have to do more diagnostic tests, because we have to win the battle – against COVID-19 – for Zulia”, said the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, on a telephone contact with the Commission.

Along these lines, he alerted the governors and mayors of the regions that are in quarantine, to put a special emphasis on the importance of complying with prevention protocols in order to contain the spread of the virus in these entities.

Likewise, he urged them to work along with the People’s Power: “Only the People’s Power can, in this pandemic, deploy the detection and care plans for the cases of the new Coronavirus, and only the People’s Power, activated, aware and with medical and scientific support, can cut the chains of contagion”, he stressed.

The Venezuelan Head of State highlighted that there are currently more than 14,000 medical brigades deployed throughout the country, who are attending firsthand these COVID-19 cases.

With respect to rapid tests for the early detection of infection, it was learned that 1,258,937 tests have been carried out in the nation, which represents a total of 41,965 tests per million inhabitants.
