Main cities of the country suffer resurgence of COVID-19 infections

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, warned that a dangerous resurgence of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is taking place in most of the country’s big cities.

“The rebound in cases in the country due to respiratory infection has been generated by the impact that COVID-19 has had in Colombia and Brazil and the compatriots who have returned to the country -more than 70,000-” stated the President during a work meeting at La Casona Cultural, in Miranda state.

He pointed out that the disease has affected the center, west and south of the country, which is why measures have already been taken “so that all the sanitary cords installed on the border may work in the best way.”

Likewise, he denounced that in some cases the migratory controls established in the border areas have been violated by the so-called “trocheros” (trail smugglers), which has led to the infection of families in various states of the country.

He called on the people not to relax preventive measures in this resurgence phase: “We have to worry and cut that chain of infections”, he urged.

Radicalized quarantine:

President Maduro said the people of Venezuela answered this Monday, June 22, the call for the radicalization of the voluntary and collective quarantine decreed during this week.

Last Saturday the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the establishment of special containment barriers in ten states of the country. Among the measures are: the closure of the Metro (subway) systems in the city of Caracas and the Valles del Tuy Railway.
