106 new Covid-19 cases detected by community transmission and 92 imported cases

In the last 24 hours, 106 new community-transmitted infections and 92 imported Covid-19 cases were reported in the country, for a total of 198, bringing the number of accumulated cases to 3,789, said the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez.

She also indicated that were registered three new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 33.

Of the three killed by the coronavirus, two correspond to the Las Pulgas market in Maracaibo, Zulia state: a 29-year-old man, asthmatic; and a 54-year-old merchant, who had a history of high blood pressure.

The third deceased was a 58-year-old retired nurse from the Caroní municipality of Bolívar state, who suffered from hypertension, bronchial asthma, obesity and arthritis.

To date, 835 patients have recovered and 2,518 people are without symptoms. 386 are reported with mild symptoms, 12 with moderate symptoms; and 6 patients with severe symptoms, who are in intensive care units (ICU).

The Executive Vice President announced that 1,129,176 Covid-19 screening tests have been performed so far, which represents 37,639 tests per million inhabitants.

Community transmission cases

When presenting the balance of the presidential commission to attend the coronavirus pandemic from Miraflores Palace in Caracas, she specified that, out of the total cases of community transmission, 77 have been registered in the Las Pulgas market in Maracaibo, Zulia state.

For this reason, this Sunday two special contingents will be sent to this entity, with the participation of national authorities and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv) in order to deal with the contingency.

The executive vice president indicated that in the Las Pulgas market alone, more than 400 infections have been registered to date, being the most important focus of infection in the country. She noted that the Cuban medical mission and the military health department have traveled before, in two stages, to Zulia state.

The other cases of community transmission of Covid-19 were found in Miranda (11), Capital District (7), Nueva Esparta (2), Monagas (1), Apure (3) and Bolívar states (1).

The Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado, indicated that of the 11 cases in Miranda state, 66 are men, 40 women and six minors. A contagion corresponds to a 59-year-old woman from El Hatillo, a worker in a supermarket in El Cafetal; a 42-year-old engineer from El Hatillo; a 35-year-old male nurse from the Paz Castillo municipality; a 72-year-old woman from Las Minas de Baruta; a 40-year-old woman from Las Minas de Baruta who had previous contact with a positive case; a 29-year-old driver from Los Salias who brought merchandise from Zulia state; a 39-year-old janitor from La Trinidad, Baruta municipality, who tested positive with her husband and son.

The following cases were also reported in Miranda state: a 78-year-old doctor in the Chacao municipality and a 48-year-old medical radiologist from the Zamora municipality.

In the Capital District, he noted that of the 7 cases, one corresponds to a 42-year-old driver from the La Candelaria parish who recently traveled to Bolívar state; a 38-year-old driver from the Coche parish; a 30-year-old informal merchant from the Santa Teresa parish who works in the Quinta Crespo market; a 31-year-old woman from Caricuao, cook in a private clinic; a 59-year-old dental assistant from El Paraíso; a 54-year-old soldier from Coche, and a 28-year-old man from La Vega.

In Nueva Esparta state, one of the infected is a 32-year-old coast guard military man, and a 31-year-old woman who works in the fire department.

In Monagas state, a contagion from a 36-year-old police officer from Maturín is reported.

Of the three cases in Sucre state, one corresponds to two 41-year-old men from Cumaná; and the other a 44-year-old man from Carúpano.

Imported cases

In the last 24 hours have been registered 92 new cases, of which 83 are imported, and nine due to contact with imported ones.

Out of the 83 imported cases, 77 entered the country through Táchira, Apure and Zulia states, are coming from Colombia, and 6 cases entered through Bolívar state, coming from Brazil:

“We have established more rigorous conditions for the Integral Attention Post (Pasi) on the border,” she said, while noting that the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb) deployed two new camps in Zulia state for the care of compatriots who return to the country, in the towns of Guana and Paraguaipoa.

Of the nine people infected by contact with international cases, she indicated that they correspond to personnel who attend the border assistance posts: a policeman in Santa Elena de Uairén (Bolívar); five soldiers in Táchira state, and two military personnel in Guasdalito, Apure state.

Of these cases due to contact with imported cases, she pointed to a doctor from the Sucre parish in Caracas.

Rodríguez pointed out that 70,370 Venezuelans have returned to the country since April 6, who have been properly treated in health and nutrition at border assistance posts.
