President Maduro: In Venezuela there is democracy and there will be free elections

The president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Nicolás Maduro, said on Tuesday that in Venezuela there will be free and democratic elections this year, to elect the new members of the National Assembly, as established by the Constitution:

“Nothing and nobody will be able to stop this process, in Venezuela there is democracy and there will be free elections. Venezuela says yes to votes, no to bullets, yes to elections, no to “guarimbas” (riots), yes to democracy, no to the Yankee intervention”, said Nicolás Maduro during a videoconference with the national leadership of the red party.

In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, Maduro stressed that parliamentary elections are coming “to definitively throw out the opposition leaders who have done so much harm to the nation”.

In this sense, he reiterated that political life in Venezuela continues, since there is a full democracy and there will be free elections:

“They already said that they were not going to participate in the next parliamentary elections, which are in the constitution; I ask the mayors and mayors of the opposition: Do you withdraw and then you will no longer be candidates?, Do you withdraw from political life?”, he asked.

In this regard, he urged the leaders of the National Directorate of the PSUV and the revolutionary militancy “to move the fiber of the people, the elections are coming and we must get Ramos Allup, Julio Borges and Guaidó off”.

The Head of State indicated that the militancy of the political party of the Revolution must prepare for some contested elections:

“Let’s not be over confident ourselves, but we have to find and mobilize up to the last compatriot and there we go preparing for the elections of governors and mayors”, he sentenced.
