Venezuela denounces new terrorist aggression organized from Colombia and planned by the US

Venezuela denounced on Monday that the Governments of the United States and Colombia organized a new armed aggression against the country, trying to carry out a mercenary incursion into national territory on Sunday, May 3, disregarding the call for the cessation of hostilities in the world. by the United Nations (UN) in the wake of the new coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, shared the official communiqué through his social networks.

Following, the communiqué:

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces to the international community a new mercenary and terrorist aggression, organized from the territory of the Republic of Colombia and planned by agents of the United States, against the peace, democracy and sovereignty of Venezuela.

At dawn on May 3, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces frustrated an attempt to disembark on the coasts of La Guaira state mercenary groups who intended to carry out terrorist actions against authorities of the Venezuelan state and against the peace of the Republic.

In the failed operation, several terrorists were killed and others were apprehended, and an important batch of weapons, vehicles and war material was also seized. One of those captured has confessed to being a veteran agent of the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). In the afternoon, Venezuelan military deserters and a former member of the United States Army special forces, assumed responsibility for this failed operation and confirmed that it was planned and organized on the territory of the Republic of Colombia and that the armed vessels sailed from territory of that country.

This new attack adds to the escalation of aggressive actions and provocations organized by the United States against Venezuela, such as the unjustifiable as well as gigantic military deployment of the Southern Command in the waters of the Caribbean Sea; the recurring attempt to involve Venezuela in drug trafficking activities through unfounded accusations; the extremely serious aggression of the Portuguese-flagged ship “Resolute” againsts a Venezuelan navy vessel and its subsequent flight into jurisdictional waters of NATO member countries in the Caribbean, all spiced by the incessant wave of hostile statements by senior US officials, such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and special envoy Elliot Abrams, who boast of announcing an impending collapse in Venezuela.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela holds the governments of Donald Trump and Iván Duque responsible for the unpredictable and dangerous consequences of this wave of provocations and mercenary aggressions against the Venezuelan people, and ratifies their unwavering decision to defend the territory, sovereignty, democracy and the peace of the Venezuelan people.

Likewise, Venezuela alerts the Secretary General and the Security Council and the other United Nations bodies to this escalation, which in addition to being in violation of Resolutions 42/9 of the Human Rights Council and 74/138 of the United Nations General Assembly Against the use of mercenaries as a means of violating human rights and hindering the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination, it occurs amidst a global pandemic, disregarding the call of the Secretary General to cease hostilities in the world”.
